Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov informed the Greek delegation about the nomination of a Russian candidate for the post of the IMO Secretary-General

A meeting of the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Mikhail Sokolov and First Deputy Minister of National Defense of the Hellenic Republic Costas Isihos, co-chairmen of the Joint Russian-Greek Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, was held on 19 March 2015 in Moscow.

The parties discussed the current state of Russian-Greek economic and trade relations and the implementation of agreements reached at the meeting of the 8th session of the Commission in April 2013 and the co-chairmen meeting in November 2014. It was stated that positive dynamics have been achieved in most areas of cooperation.

Concerning the two countries cooperation in the field of transport the parties discussed the feasibility of establishing reliable supply chains, which would link the two countries. In particular, at the suggestion of the Greek side, the Alexandroupolis (Greece) - Rostov-on-Don (Russia) line for transportation in both directions of industrial and agricultural products could serve as an example.

The Russian minister has asked the Greek delegation to support the candidacy of the Russian representative to the post of Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Mr. Costas Isihos promised to pass an appropriate request to the competent Greek authorities, dealing with this issue.

Following the talks results, the parties agreed on further joint efforts to create favorable conditions for Russian and Greek companies operating in the markets of both countries and to improve the investment climate.

The both parties have agreed to hold the next 9th session of the Intergovernmental Commission in the second half of 2015 in Moscow.
